VNSNY Partners with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai on Health Care Innovation Award from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

Last week, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an award of more than $9.6 million for the Mobile Acute Care Team (MACT) program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which provides acute care services at patients' homes rather than at the hospital. Shifting health care services thno the home eliminates the higher cost of a hospital admission.

Danielle Pierotti Appointed to CMS Technical Expert Panel on Hospice Quality Reporting

VNAA is pleased to announce the appointment of Danielle Pierotti, RN, MSN, AOCN, CHPN (PhDc), of HCI-VNS Care Services of Iowa to The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP) Technical Expert Panel (TEP). Danielle will be a presenter at VNAA's upcoming Midwest Regional Meeting June 17-18 in Kansas City, Mo.

Sen. Ron Wyden Encourages Hospices to Apply for Palliative Care Demo by June 19

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) prepared a video to encourage hospices to apply for the Medicare Care Choices Model. Hospice organizations interested in participating in this model must submit application materials no later than June 19, 2014. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will not accept applications by facsimile transmission or by email.

Vice President of Public Policy Kathleen Sheehan Departs VNAA

Vice President of Public Policy Kathleen Sheehan has ended her tenure at VNAA to take a new position with the American College of Cardiology. In her time at VNAA, Kathleen was a tireless advocate for VNAA members on Capitol Hill and with regulatory agencies, taking a bi-partisan approach and enlisting a number of allied organizations in her work. As the head of public policy, Kathleen developed VNAA's policy platform around the guiding principle that all should have access to quality care, not matter their ability to pay and championed the innovation of home health, hospice, palliative care and community nonprofit providers.
