Washington, DC/San Diego, CA – The Visiting Nurse Associations of America (VNAA) and the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation (the Alliance) today kicked off the Home-Based Care: National Leadership Conference, Transforming Leaders in Home-Based Care, bringing together leading experts, strategic thinkers and executives in the home-based care industry. The three-day event covers topics including best practices, unifying the home-based care industry, and new innovations in the field.

Anchored by two plenary sessions, attendees discussed industry unification and positioning home-based care across the continuum. Robert Fazzi, managing partner of Fazzi Associates, began the first plenary session by discussing the need to unify the home-based care industry for the benefit of patients, family caregivers, clinicians and taxpayers. His remarks also focused on the need to strengthen the quality, value and impact of home care, hospice and community-based services.

Transformed into TED-style "talks" led by health industry leaders, the second plenary session will focus on positioning home-based care across the continuum. These 20-minute keynote presentations offer attendees maximum exposure to key insights from leaders in the industry. Marcus Osborne, Vice President of Health and Wellness Transformation for Wal-Mart will headline the second session by discussing the importance of focusing on the health consumer. Other topics during Thursday’s session will include harnessing data to improve consumer engagement and integrating behavioral health and home care.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the conference offers concurrent sessions from thought leaders in the home-based care industry in five topic-based tracks: Integrated Systems and Partnerships; Chronic Condition Management and Post-Acute Care; Advanced Illness and End-of-Life; Nonprofit Leadership; and Special Topics.

“Presented this year for the first time under the Home-Based Care Events umbrella, the National Leadership Conference is bringing together leaders in the home-based care industry to transform our understanding of home-based and community care and how we can come together to better serve our patients,” said Tracey Moorhead, President and CEO of VNAA. “Our goal during the conference is to engage attendees in a dialogue that will offer insights into redesigning home-based care for the modern era.”

Home-Based Care Events, a partnership between VNAA and the Alliance, promotes innovation and excellence in home-based care. Together these organizations conduct conferences and forums, and lead the industry through advocacy to influence public policy in support of home-based care. VNAA and the Alliance annually present the National Leadership Conference, Public Policy Leadership Conference, and the Financial Leadership Forum to further the success of home-based care providers and patients.
